Visiting the University of Turku

In our seminar today at the University of Turku, we explored the fascinating world of bacteriophages – viruses that specifically target and destroy bacteria. These natural bacterial predators are emerging as a powerful solution to combat antibiotic resistance. By injecting their genetic material into bacteria, phages replicate and ultimately kill the bacterial host, making them a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics.

We also highlighted the pioneering work of PrecisionPhage, a biotech company dedicated to harnessing phage therapy to fight antibiotic-resistant infections. PrecisionPhage boasts a vast collection of over 1500 phages targeting drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Their services include phage screening, genome safety checks, and expert consulting on phage applications. Additionally, PrecisionPhage's Phagenomics platform offers advanced tools for phage genome assembly and analysis. By combining cutting-edge research with practical solutions, PrecisionPhage is poised to revolutionize antibacterial therapy and improve public health.
