PrecisionPhage at the Virus club
In today's Virus Club, hosted by Ilona Rissanen in the University of Helsinki, we delved into the intriguing world of bacteriophages – viruses that exclusively target and eliminate bacteria. These microscopic warriors are gaining recognition as a potent weapon against antibiotic resistance. By injecting their genetic material into bacterial cells, phages replicate and destroy their hosts, offering a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics.
We also featured the groundbreaking efforts of PrecisionPhage, a leading biotech company focused on utilizing phage therapy to tackle antibiotic-resistant infections. Many old colleagues attended, and it was nice to see familiar faces still working with various types of viruses.
